Yes, there it is. Well, almost, because in this print 'the pot' - as we Rotterdammers affectionately call our Boijmans Depot - is still a building site.
A real building site, with trucks carrying the last bucket of sand back and forth and workers busier than the trams on Coolsingel. This is Rotterdam in all its pure, unpolished glory. No frills, no bullshit - just hard work on something that will soon be worldly.
From a high vantage point, you get the whole party in view. The Zalmhaven tower flaunts the skyline, the Cruise Terminal stands sturdy on Zuid, and of course the Willemsbrug and the Zwaan must not be missed. It looks like a family portrait of Rotterdam's finest!
The drawing was made with an old-fashioned crown pen, India ink and watercolour - nice and pure, just like the Rotterdammers themselves. Those rough lines and splotches of paint fit the city feel perfectly.
This is no standard postcard, this is an ode to the mentality of our city: no words but deeds, and no dust mask but shoulders underneath.
Hang it on your wall, and every time you see it, you will hear the trucks honking and feel the diligent labour. Because say it yourself, what could be better than the skyline of 010 with a load of character?
This is not art, this is Rotterdam at its best.
It doesn't get any more Rotterdam than this. Tell me: what are you waiting for? Hang that pot on your wall!
