Concert and Congress Centre De Doelen is one of the most important buildings from the postwar reconstruction period of the city of Rotterdam. The complex was built to a design by the architects Kraaijvanger and Fledderus and opened in 1966. Since 2015 it is officially designated as a national monument.

The square was laid out in the nineties to a design by Adriaan Geuze's West 8 Landscape Architects .
