Hardly any other river in Europe was sung as often as the Rhine. Countless books describe him, his father Rhine. Many times the Rhine was novel. Even in the Nibelungs he found his place. Only those who know him, who sat on his banks, who followed the course of the river, who visited the beautiful towns on the left and right banks of the Rhine, know how much he inspired and captivated artists of all eras. William Turner sat on his bank 200 years ago and let the brushes glide magically over the canvas. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote down his fascination in his travelogues from 1770 to 1880. I live on the Rhine. I live here. So what fascinates me more than the magic of this river ... and I am far in the world and will soon go home, then I am happy, oh mighty Rhine ...
