Putting already created art or already existing objects into a new context is not new. Vincent van Gogh copied famous paintings, even by Delacroix and Rembrandt, but in his own style. In 1856 Ingres copied the portrait of Madame Moitessier in his own style. Marcel Duchamp may be mentioned as the first to use the so-called "ready mades" and bombard them as art objects. Appropriation art is seen in Dadaism, Cubism, Surrealism, Pop Art and Neo-Geo Art and continues to this day.
