About ‘Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, Vík, Iceland’ by Laura Wubben

This photo was taken at the black beach of Reynisfjara, located on Iceland's southern coast near the village of Vík. Reynisfjara is known for its basalt sand, formed from lava that came into contact with the sea and then disintegrated. What you see here is no exception, but a landscape constantly in motion due to wave action and tides.

The sea rolls up the beach and retreats again, creating patterns that never stay the same. The black sand forms a strong contrast to the water, highlighting the strength of the coastline. Reynisfjara is a place where land and ocean meet directly, without transition or protection. That feeling is captured in this image by keeping distance and letting the landscape speak its own form.

This photograph brings to the wall a piece of Iceland that is all about perception and space. For those interested in Reynisfjara, black beaches and the Icelandic coastal landscape, this work shows how nature works here, without explanation or embellishment.
