On the coast of the Swedish island of Öland near the village Byrum there are some striking rock formations. The stone pillars are called Raukar in Sweden. Byrums Raukar were formed 490 million years ago over a period of over 40 million years. After that, wind and water worked as the sculptors of the forms as they stand today. A surrealistic coast in which many fossils have been preserved. At the time the limestone was formed Öland was still in tropical waters. Due to the floating tectonic plates the island moved further and further north.
I can only marvel at what the greatest artist, Mother Earth, has created here and may be admired by us.
