At the end of a turbulent day on the Groningen coast, near the North Cape, a magical moment opens up. Despite the strong wind, the layer of water on the Uithuizerwad at low tide is just calm enough to capture a subtle reflection of the dramatic cloudy sky. The sun slowly sinks to the horizon, painting warm golden and orange hues over the wet mudflats and the still impressive cloud cover.
A long row of wooden poles cuts diagonally through the image, leading the eye to the infinity of the Wadden Sea. The combination of soft light, reflective water and rugged elements such as the wind and the texture of the mudflats gives this picture a rare balance between tranquillity and dynamism. Perfect for large on the wall, or as wallpaper.
This shot shows how even in rough moments, nature leaves room for stillness - if you manage to catch the right moment. The photo was taken from the mud flats of the Wadden Sea at the bottom of the dike.
