The deep lakes with the steep embankments, created in the last ice age, as they can be found on the Duurswouderheide give incredibly beautiful bright reflections of anything on the banks. In this case, a single lone tree. The reflection is slightly less sharp than the tree itself. This nicely shows how we often see ourselves. Another person sees us razor-sharp and as we are but our self-image and our reflection are often slightly distorted.
The colour of the reeds on the ramparts gives a nice contrast to the colour of the sky. In turn, the trees give a nice dark contrast to the light sky and reeds.
