About the artwork

One of Rembrandt's absolute masterpieces, The Standard-bearer is inextricably linked to the history of the Netherlands. Pennant bearers were at the forefront of the Eighty Years' War, which led to the birth of the Netherlands. In this large self-portrait, Rembrandt paints himself rebellious and full of bravado. It was his artistic breakthrough that would lead to The Night Watch.

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (Leiden, July 15, 1606 - Amsterdam, October 4, 1669) was a Dutch painter, etcher and draughtsman. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters and etchers in European art, and the most important Dutch master of the 17th century. His work belongs to the Baroque period and is visibly influenced by Caravaggism. His remarkable mastery of the play of light and dark, often using sharp contrasts (chiaroscuro) to draw the viewer into the scene, led to vivid scenes full of drama.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
