About "Protect the Past and the Future: A Plea for Sustainability and Arts Futures"

About the artwork

When there is no future, you erase the past. What future do you have if you erase the past? Many people who have problems with micro-aggressions were okay with symbolically "destroying" a work of art as activism.

The question to what extent we think about the world in the future is legitimate. The question to what extent nostalgia matters without a future is also legitimate. Protecting the climate, however, is about protecting what is vulnerable. Art does not have to be in opposition to a clean beautiful environment. Both are about how beautiful the world around us is. Therefore, protect The Girl with the Pearl of the past, as well as the Girls with the Pearl of the future. Stop the oil and protect what is vulnerable and cannot defend itself.

Art would be an elite hobby, while the very works of art are picked out that the common people can also appreciate. Would the reaction have been the same if it were intricate art, of interest mainly to the connoisseur?
