Built up of many layers. This creates the illusion of space because the color planes are deep and rich.
Inspired by the world famous painting by Barnett Newman: Cathedra.
Colorfield painting.
This style falls under abstract expressionism.
Painted in 1951, Cathedra refers to the Old Testament: the blue sky and the throne of God. With the title, the spiritually-minded Newman wanted to make clear how, while painting Cathedra, he felt connected to the higher and the mystery of life.
Of course this is only a reference to the work. I give it my own twist, so that something new emerges.
