Portrait of the bronze statue of the Little Mermaid. It stands on a rock in the harbour of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was made by Edward Eriksen, based on the fairy tale by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. In Danish, she is called "Den lille havfrue". Since 23 August 1913, this figurine has stood in Copenhagen. She was commissioned here by Carl Jacobsen, the boss of the Carlsberg Breweries. It has become one of the main tourist attractions in Copenhagen. Up to the ankles, this mermaid has two clearly distinguishable legs and has two tails.
