In this composite work, you see the portrait of a male Lion (Panthera leo) trying to hide behind the trunk of a Baobab tree. He thinks he is invisible, but of course you can see him. You are immediately impressed by piercing gaze of the eye.
I photographed the Lion somewhere in the Botswana wilderness where he was resting in the shade of a tree. The portrait is penetrating but I was not satisfied with the background. So I used the head to create this composition. The image is somewhat humorous and, as far as I am concerned, is a model for the many encounters with often hard-to-find Lions, who tried to hide from the photographer.
