With its high white bell tower, the Romanesque church of San Nicolò, which together with the Dogana Veneta frames the Old Port, is one of the attractions not to be missed in Lazise.
The church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the protector of sailors and fishermen, is in Romanesque style and dates back to the late twelfth century.
Over the centuries, the church has undergone some important changes: With the earthquake of 1117 and after a fire in 1595, some parts were destroyed, especially the apse and the bell tower, which were later rebuilt.
Dogana Veneta is a famous 14th century building located in the main square of Lazise (Verona), directly on the ancient port on the shore of Lake Garda.
This prestigious building from the time of the Republic of Venice was once a customs house for trade between Lombardy and the Republic of Venice.
Today it is an important seat for congresses, meetings, gala evenings, road shows, as well as sumptuous weddings and sophisticated cultural events.
