The design by Arons and Gelauff Architects was chosen as the winning design in 2007, and despite the credit crisis was built almost according to the design in 2015. The Pontsteiger building is part of the area development of the Houthavens, and is located on the IJ where the ferry departs from the 1957 built pontoon at Tasmanstraat, to the NDSM site and Distelweg.
In 2020 it was nominated with nine other buildings for the Amsterdam Architecture Prize.
