About ‘Plaza de Espana in Sevilla’ by Antwan Janssen

The Plaza de España is one of the most visited monuments in Seville. The Plaza de España can be found in the Maria Luisa park. It was constructed in honor of the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition. The huge square with a diameter of 200 meters has the shape of a crescent moon and is surrounded by buildings. The idea behind it is that Spain embraces its ex-colonies. Among the buildings there are 48 rows of frescoes with typical Andalusian tiles, depicting the Spanish provinces with their coat of arms and geographical location. The beautiful bridges symbolize the four ancient Spanish Kingdoms at the time of the Catholic Kings, some five centuries ago.
