About ‘Planewreck on the black beach in Iceland’ by Henk Derksen

On 21 November 1973, a US Navy Douglas C-117D transport aircraft crashed on the beach at Sélheimasandur Iceland during heavy ice conditions. All seven crew members on board survived the accident and the aircraft was written off. The main body wreckage has remained relatively intact since the accident, making the crash site a tourist destination.
Over the years, however, pieces of the plane have kept disappearing because some tourists think they can take pieces with them as souvenirs.

To get to the wreckage site, you can use a taxi truck or you can walk to the wreckage, the distance from the road is about'4 km.

I have posted this photo in black and white because I think it shows it off best then.

It did take some time to photograph the plane without people.

This photo is a pearl for the wall and can actually be hung in all rooms.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
