This large, red/pink scaly fruit attracts attention because of its unusual name and distinctive shape. Dragon fruit is widely eaten in Southeast Asia. If you order a fruit salad, chances are there will be dragon fruit on your plate alongside melon, pineapple, mango and banana!
We eat them regularly during our travels in Southeast Asia but had never seen how they grow During our stay on the island of Pangkor, near Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, we walked past a bush with some fruits. The fruit is already beautiful but like this against the terracotta wall it is a picture. Truly a picture to hang in your restaurant or kitchen.
The tarragon fruit looks a bit like a cross between a succulent and a cactus and the fruit comes in several colours including pink and yellow. The flesh is white with small black seeds and has a mild flavour.
