This superb tropical plant is known as pink ginger (Alpinia purpurata), a widespread species in the hot, humid regions of South-East Asia and the Pacific. Its elegant inflorescence, made up of pink cone-shaped bracts, immediately catches the eye with its tender colour and sculptural appearance. Contrary to appearances, it is not the actual flowers that stand out, but the bracts that protect the small, tubular, often white flowers nestling inside. This ornamental plant is very popular in tropical gardens and is frequently used in floral arrangements thanks to the longevity of its stems. It thrives in damp undergrowth, benefiting from subdued light and constant warmth. At the Bogor Botanic Garden, pink ginger embodies the richness and diversity of tropical plants grown for aesthetic and scientific purposes. A symbol of exoticism and vitality, it perfectly illustrates the balance between plant strength and floral delicacy, a combination that appeals to botanists and visitors alike.
