Anthuriums. Beautiful plants with beautiful flowers. My mother's favorite plant.
Anthurium is a large plant genus from tropical America consisting of 600 species. The genus belongs to the arum family (Araceae). These plants are epiphytes with few roots. The stems are 15-30 cm long. The leaves usually have petioles, but there are also types that make a leaf rosette with only a rudimentary petiole.
The flowers are small (about 3 mm) and grow on a fleshy inflorescence spadix with a bract (spatha) around it that can have different colors. Most species have an inconspicuous bract that is green to black in color. Especially Anthurium andreanum and Anthurium scherzerianum can have brightly colored bracts: dark green to white, pink, orange to bright red and purple. This color can change depending on the flower stage (from bud stage to flowering stage). The fruits are berries that grow on a fruit branch (infructescence).
