Trees and mountain landscape on the Mediterranean coast. The Sierra Helada Nature Park is a landmark of the Costa Blanca in Spain. The mountain range rises between the coastal towns of Altea and Benidorm. The ascent to the summit leads through an idyllic wooded area, offering wonderful views towards the coast in Altea. The side of the Sierra Helada facing the sea impresses with its imposing cliffs, while the slopes facing away from the sea appear more gentle and have a variety of vegetation.
This photo was taken in the pleasant partial shade of the pine forest. The blue Mediterranean Sea, the marina and the white houses of Altea can be seen in the distance. The coastal landscape is characterised by the imposing mountain range of the Sierra de Bernia. The scene is framed by the green treetops of the pine trees.
Incidentally, the name Sierra Helada means icy or frosty mountain. This probably refers less to the Mediterranean temperatures and more to the special light moods on the coast and the bright colours of the cliffs, which give the Sierra Helada mountains (seen from a distance) a frosty appearance on some days.
