Side portrait of a cave pigeon, or 'Columba oenas'. This species is called cave pigeon because it makes its nests in tree cavities and rock holes, among other places. The cave pigeon has dark grey feathers and can grow up to 32 centimetres long. Its maximum weight is 300 grams. It can be distinguished from other pigeon species with its purple-green patch on its neck.
