In "Pierette's Dance with Escher" my admiration for two great masters comes together in one visual spectacle. With a deep bow to the ingenious M.C. Escher, I bring to life a world in which perspective and reality play a fascinating game. But it is the spirit of Picasso that dances through the angles and shadows; his cubist vision distorts and enriches the structure of the space, bringing a dynamic, almost musical quality to the whole.
The technique is contemporary, the influences timeless. The digital painting techniques I use embrace the irregularities and power of the brushstroke, while 3D rendering gives a new dimension to classical styles. It is as if Picasso's palette has undergone a digital transformation, merging with Escher's impossible constructions.
The Pierette, once a silent figure in traditional theatre, finds a new expression in this artwork. She dances, spins and shares space with the abstract forms, her movements both an ode to the old masters and a celebration of new possibilities.
