The Horse Bridge in this picture is first mentioned in 1392; it was a wooden bridge rebuilt as early as 1431. This bridge, just like the nearby Meebrug, had an important connecting function between the inner city and the adjoining suburb, called the "Braamberg", because the latter was annexed to the inner city shortly before 1246. The current stone arch bridge dates from 1642.
