About ‘Peat’ by Johan Zwarthoed
In Northern Ireland, a lot of peat is still extracted from the ground. After being taken out of the ground by machine, it is dried for several weeks or months. It is then used to heat houses and for cooking. In rural areas this is still often done.
This photo shows a detail of the peat. The plant remains are still clearly visible.
