A hamster with attitude: in Stefanie Gendera's urban artwork, street art meets animal welfare with a twinkle in her eye. In front of a section of the Berlin Wall, littered with garish graffiti, the oversized peace sign in bright orange immediately catches the eye. Below it, an equally bright "NOW" urgently calls for action. But the real star is the rodent in the foreground - a European field hamster, visibly determined to become part of the movement itself, spray can in hand.
Gendera's style combines realistic depictions of animals with a pop-expressive street art aesthetic. The hamster is not just cute, but rebellious - a symbol of endangered species that are increasingly disappearing in our man-made environment. With his determined look and the can of paint in his paws, he seems to be saying: "Enough waiting! It's time to act - for peace, for nature, for all of us."
The work deliberately plays with the Berlin Wall as a historical memorial, but at the same time invites reflection on modern walls - between humans and animals, nature and concrete, ignorance and action. A rebellious, charmingly provocative contribution to the debate on species conservation in urban spaces.
I have brought back many photo impressions from my travels. So that you can also enjoy the impressive pictures, I offer selected photos here that can be printed on canvas, as posters, on acrylic glass and even more media. For more travel inspiration, visit my website.. Read more…
