Adriaen Thomasz Key (ca. 1544 - 1589) was a portrait painter working in Antwerp. He painted this portrait of a man in 1581, whose identity is unfortunately unknown. The inscription at the top left betrays that the man was 38 years old in 1581, when this portrait was painted. Judging from his Latin motto 'Patientia Spe' ('With patience and hope'), the man must have been thoughtful in nature.
Anno 2022 I have made this modern version of the painting, by adding graphic shapes in Delft Blue neon.
