Pastel Popping Hammer Smash Abstract was great fun to create and a bit messy as I really did use a hammer to spread the pools of paint across the art board. With a plain shade of dark brown as the background, the pastel colours used, pink, blue and yellow enjoy just a hint of gold and suggestions of black. This is a great technique for creating abstract paintings. Careful consideration has to go into the colours selected and the order in which puddles of paint are created as the lower colour will come through more once it has been hit with a hammer. I left the paint quite thick as I like the way the paint dries and cracks which I think adds to the textured look of the piece. The actual use of a hammer takes a bit of time to master if you don't want yourself, and the entire studio, covered in paint splashes! It is all about control - but still great fun.
