About "Past glory"

by Gerry van Roosmalen

About the artwork

Welcome to the mysterious realm of desolation, where the once stalwart bolides of yesteryear have found their final resting place amid the damp forests of Sweden. A car graveyard steeped in the beauty of decay, where rusty bodies and dilapidated chassis form a wistful symphony with the whispering of the trees and the rustling of the wind.

This place exudes an air of nostalgia and mystery, where every weathered car tells a story of bygone times and forgotten dreams. Once the proud symbols of speed and freedom, they are now at the mercy of Mother Nature's merciless grip, slowly but surely taking back what is rightfully hers.

For the photographer, this is a veritable paradise of inspiration, a vast canvas of rusted metal and details overgrown by nature. Every angle offers a new perspective, a new story to capture for posterity. But for the car enthusiast, it is a painful reminder of past glory, a heartbreaking nightmare of what once was and never will be again.

Yet, amid this scene of desolation, there is a certain beauty in impermanence. It is a reminder of the impermanence of all things, and of nature's power to restore and renew. And so the car cemetery in humid Sweden, remains a fascinating place of contrasts, where the line between past and present blurs and time seems to stand still
