The parasol fungus is a common species with a very large cap in some cases. This photo was taken in the Middelduinen nature reserve on Goeree Overflakkee.
Autumn is the perfect time to photograph fungi and mushrooms. My challenge lies in doing this differently from the traditional way.
The strength of this photo lies in the great contrast between the light parasol mushrooms and the dark background.
It also appealed to me that while taking this photo, there were many drops on the cap of the fungus. As a result, the fungus also lives up to its name even though it is not an umbrella fungus.
I deliberately chose to take the photo straight from the top so that the drops are nicely visible.
The depth of focus in this photo also invites you to keep looking a bit longer.
I was born on Goeree Overflakkee and there are beautiful nature reserves to photograph such as the Kwade Hoek and the Slikken van Flakkee. I love to travel and try to capture both the culture and nature of distant countries photographically.
