Blowhole at the pancake rocks in Punakaiki rocks, New Zealand. At high tide the water squirts up through the blowholes. The Pancake Rocks at 'Dolomite Point' south of the settlement are a popular tourist attraction. The Pancake Rocks consist of a group of strongly weathered limestone cliffs where the Tasman Sea breaks through a number of vertical blowholes during high tide. The limestone here seems to be layered in the 'pancake' way. This is caused by enormous pressure on the alternating hard and soft layers of sea creatures and plant remains.
