Fiordland is a geographical area in New Zealand located in the southwest of the South Island. The largest part consists of the Fiordland National Park, which with its surface area of approximately 12,500 km² is the largest natural park in New Zealand.
There are many tourist attractions such as Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and the Milford Track. There are some endangered species such as the takahe, the kiwi and the blue duck. Most of Fiordland is dominated by the New Zealand or Southern Alps and the many flooded valleys. There are also some very high waterfalls in Fiordland.
The name Fiordland comes from the Norwegian term fjord.
