Palma is a vacation city and capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca in the western Mediterranean Sea. The imposing La Seu Cathedral was built in the 13th century in Gothic style and is located on the bay of Palma. Next to it is the Almudaina Palace, a former Moorish fortress that now serves the royal couple on official occasions. To the southwest of the city rises the Castell de Bellver, a medieval castle complex with an unmistakable circular shape.
The beautiful buildings shown here are located in the Plaça del Mercat. The Plaza del Mercat is a small paved square on Calle Unió in the center of Palma. In its center is a sculpture of Antonio Maura, Spain's five-time prime minister between 1904 and 1921, and a century-old ficus tree. The handsome 18th-century bell tower of the Church of San Nicolás completes the picturesque setting.
