About ‘Palma de Mallorca - Basílica de Sant Francesc’ by Thomas Bugdoll

The church of San Francisco of Palma is a good example of Gothic architecture; it was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and houses the tomb of Ramón Llull. The facade, in turn, was renewed during the 17th century in the Baroque style. Worthy of note is the Gothic cloister, which was unique under the Crown of Aragon.

The Franciscans arrived in Mallorca in 1232. After building their first church at the gate of Santa Margalida, they settled permanently in this place and built the monastery and church in 1281.
