It had been on my to-do photo list for a while, the Palendorp near Petten. This is a cultural monument and the poles with lengths between 6 and 12 metres stand in the shape of 10 houses and a church and is a reminder of the old Petten which was inundated by the sea long ago. When it is Ebb, the poles stand on the beach but at high tide the poles come into the sea. By using long shutter speeds, you can see the dynamics of the rising water. This photo was still a challenge, though. The conditions on site were pretty savage. It was raining cats and dogs, strong winds and the sky was pitch black. Between two thunderstorms it calmed down a little and the wind eased. Still quite difficult conditions. For this photo, I was standing almost up to my knees in the rising water, holding my tripod firmly to prevent shaking, which would cause blur in the photo. This took several attempts until finally this result of which I am quite proud. The sun even briefly showed itself on the horizon before disappearing behind it.
I hope this photo will find a nice spot on your wall or perhaps even better as a photo wallpaper!
