One of the most common mycena species is the Helmmycena. Mycena is a genus of fungi belonging to the plate fungi. The cap is brownish-grey, the lamellae white and often have a pink undertone, and the stem is grey and smooth. Grows mainly on decayed wood, such as branches and stumps. I also found this pair on a small stump lying along a path in the Purmer forest. For this photo, I carefully placed the stump on the path, and then carefully placed it back. To make the hat and lamellae stand out well, I used a ring flash, keeping the background dark. I did go through the knees for this.
I really like the conjunction of these two. One a bit bigger than the other. The black background also helps focus attention on this pair.
