While most photos and descriptions of the Oxo Building in London focus on the large tower, here I have chosen to show the scene along the side of the building, along the South Bank of the River Thames. Right in the centre of the arts scene of London, the Oxo Building sits on a riverside walk (shown here) that links the cultural attractions of Festival Hall, the National Theatre, the Tate Modern and The Globe Theatre.
The Oxo Building today contains various arts and crafts galleries, restaurants and bars as well as luxury apartments. It was originally constructed in the late 19th Century as a power station but in the 1920s it was bought by the 'Leibig Extract of Meat Company' manufacturers of oxo beef stock cubes from whence comes the name. Between 1928 and 1929 the building was restored (largely rebuilt in fact) in art deco style.
