This photo was taken in the ghost town of Kolmanskop or Kulmanskoppe in Namibia. The desert has slowly taken over this ghost town and the old diamond mine houses that are still there are part buried under the sand. The door is weathered and the paint is peeling off from exposure to the elements. The sand has accumulated around the door, giving an image as if it is slowly being enclosed by the desert. The contrast between the detailed door and the sand creates a striking sight. The warm light emphasises the loneliness of the scene and is a reminder that this area was once alive.
