The Opel Olympia A was a model similar to today's compact class and was built from summer 1967-1970. The Olympia A was intended to fill the gap until the Opel Ascona appeared and was given a chrome-plated radiator grille around the corner and was also more elaborately furnished on the inside and with lots of visible chrome trim on the outside. The safety steering column and the coil-sprung rear axle were taken over from the Opel Kadett B. With only 80,697 units built, the sales success was not too great, as it was not very different from the much cheaper Kadett B 2-door with 45 hp for DM 5,480.
