About ‘On the Kjolur’ by Lex Schulte

View from the Kjolur route. Thanks to the beautiful weather we could look very far and enjoy the beautiful interior of Iceland. The Kjölur route is one of the three main mountain roads that cross the desolate interior of Iceland. It is the middle of the three with its length of 165 kilometers. The shortest is the Kaldidalur route, the longest crossing the Sprengisandur highlands. The Kjölur route (formally called he Kjalvegur and has road number F35) begins (or ends) in southern Iceland at the Gullfoss waterfall and ends 5 hours by car later in the north just off the Svínavatn lake south of Blönduós. The unpaved road of debris, gravel and gravel continues through the Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers.
