This picture, which evokes the atmosphere of a painting, is a must for all those who love old Amsterdam.
I took this photo on a grey October day in 2016 during a city photography workshop. The old-fashioned facades were my inspiration that day and this photo stood out and was 1 of my first photos'that I had enlarged and hung myself.
The variety of shapes of these façades contrasts with the even sky, making the viewer immediately recognise Amsterdam and yet feel that we are really seeing this business card of our capital city for the first time.
I had this photo printed myself (40 by 60) and gave it to my son in Rome so that a unique piece of the Netherlands always hangs on the wall. It also hangs in my living room and from day one it has been a picture that everyone says is beautiful and actually looks more like a painting than a photograph.
I have been doing photography for 6 years now and since then I have become increasingly enthusiastic about this fun hobby. When my sisters said I could do more with my photos than just enjoy them myself, I decided to join Werk aan de Muur.
