About "Omaha Beach Monument, Normandy, France (D-day)"

About the artwork

D-day, 6 June 1944.
The time has finally come: after long and careful preparations, the invasion begins!
A gigantic sea and air fleet sets off from England for the Normandy coast.
Especially on Omaha Beach, this unprecedented operation claimed many lives. Hence the nickname Bloody Omaha.
After fierce fighting, the Allied armies moved on into Europe from the five landing beaches (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword).
The first blow was worth a thud, but the battle was far from over. A lot of blood would have to flow before peace would be a reality.

Today, Vierville-sur-Mer.
A peaceful and quiet town on the Normandy coast.
Little remains of the fierce battle and smoking ruins, but the past has not been forgotten. A visit to the D-Day museum (https://www.dday-omaha.fr/en/) shows that.
Outside, the monument reminds us that peace and freedom were fought for dearly.

Lest we forget...
