Doyle circles touch each other precisely with different rays and a spiral-shaped hexagonal pattern. In this image, the edge of the circles is extended in such a way that adjacent edges interlock. The edge and the interior of a circle consist of a tessellation of cars. The Doyle configuration of P = 9 and Q = 12 can be checked by starting from the red circle in the lower left corner. Going clockwise up along 9 neighbor circles, you end up in the same circle if you go counter clockwise along 3 neighbor circles to the right. Further clockwise going along another 3 circles you end up at the third circle of the third spiral arm between the two earlier mentioned spiral arms. By the way, M.C. Escher's Snakes was the inspiration for this image.
My training as a mathematician and my experience as a software programmer are the basic elements for designing my works of art. Since my retirement in 2019 I have started creating digital art with a mathematical slant. The works of M.C. Escher are a source of inspiration. Thanks to programs.. Read more…
