Decades ago, the port area of Düsseldorf was a major center of activity. Ships unloaded their cargoes or shipped the materials that came from nearby factories. With the closure of some of those factories, the ports seemed to have had their day and I decayed. Until an ambitious plan was launched to transform this port area into a contemporary center for commerce, living, working and architecture. The area was completely redeveloped, including unique architecture by Frank O. Gehry. However, some old elements have been preserved, such as this old harbor crane. The crane is a reminder of the diligent labor of yesteryear, and the sunset in the background is beautiful. See the skyline and the reflection in the Rhine?
