About ‘Old Town of Matera, Italy’ by Sjouke Hietkamp

Matera is a city in the southern Italian region of Basilicata and the capital of the province of the same name. Matera is located in the valley of the river Gravina di Matera, 46 kilometers from the Ionian Sea. The city is known for the Sassi, a district consisting of houses partly carved out of the mountains. The origins of Matera lie in prehistory when people started carving houses in the gorges in the area.

The city consists of two parts; the Sassi near the gorge and the modern city on the plain. The Sassi were still inhabited by 15,000 people until 1952 when the Italian government forbade it because of poor sanitary and hygienic conditions. In the centre of the Sassi stands at its highest point the cathedral from 1230. Next to this church, the Sassi counts 155 cave churches, starting from a few square meters.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
