The Öxarárfoss (Axe River Waterfall) is a 20 m high waterfall in Iceland in the Þingvellir National Park. The waterfall is located in the river Öxará, and the course of this river has probably been artificially diverted to create the waterfall, to enable annual meetings of the Icelanders and to beautify the area. In a deep spot of the river just after the waterfall, the Drekkingarhylur, until the beginning of the 18th century, women who had committed certain crimes were bagged and drowned. The Öxará flows into the þingvallavatn lake.
