Noorderlicht Netherlands, Munnekezijl, Friesland.
13 August 2024, a fairly powerful geomagnetic storm made it possible to observe the northern lights in the Netherlands! Observing the northern lights is very rare in the Netherlands and usually only possible by taking photos with a fast shutter speed. This night, it was even possible to observe the northern lights with the naked eye. The pillars of the aurora were a distinct but faint white colour and occasionally a wisp of white light appeared.
It had been exceptionally warm for several days and this night was extremely clear. This night is one never to be forgotten. The beautiful colours were tremendously bright this night. That is why it is so special to have a print of this.
This photo was taken in a nature reserve located at Munnekezijl, Friesland towards the west. Photo taken on 13 August 2024 at 00:36h.
