About the artwork
The North Sea coast in black and white shows a landscape that is at once powerful and tranquil. Without colour, the eye is automatically drawn to the essence: the lines of the beach, the endless movement of the sea and the drama of the clouds above the horizon. The contrast between light and dark gives the coast an almost timeless look, as if looking at a photograph from another era, but still recognisable and close.
The beach stretches out like a blank canvas, revealing every footstep and wave. The wet sand subtly reflects the light, while the foam of the surf contrasts brightly with the deep tones of the sea. Seagulls move through the sky like black accents, their flight caught in a play of shadow and light.
Above all this, clouds dominate: sometimes heavy and threatening, sometimes airy and spreading across the sky. In black and white, they gain extra depth and texture, making the sky an important part of the image. It seems as if the clouds and the sea are in conversation with each other, constantly moving and never the same.
A black-and-white image of the North Sea coast not only captures the landscape, but also a feeling. It is the vastness that makes you feel small, the tranquillity that makes you stand still, and the power of nature that is always present.
