About the artwork

North American-Cavalier TF-51D Mustang.

Registration: NL20TF.

This aircraft was rebuilt in 1967 from a P-51D by Cavalier Aircraft Corporation and became a Cavalier TF-51D with the US military serial number 67-14866.
Delivered to the Fuerza Aérea Boliviana in 1968. Sold to Canada in late 1977 and received C-GXUR as registration.

In 1991, wealthy Tom Friedkin bought the aircraft and gave it registration N20TF. The aircraft was damaged during a forced gear-up landing in September 2000, was rebuilt in Chino and flew again in May 2003. That same year, this warbird was flown over to Duxford where it was displayed at the Flying Legends Airshow. The aircraft was then painted in the World War II 78th Fighter Group colour scheme, from the time that unit was stationed at Duxford in 1994 and 1945. During its visit to Duxford, it was given the code DF-X, but no tail number or name. Today, the aircraft still flies in a 78th Fighter Group colour scheme, but with the code WZ-Y, tail number 463187 and the name Bum Steer (is on the left).

This photo was taken on 25 March 2023 at Barksdale Air Force Base during the Defenders of Liberty Airshow....
