About ‘New York skyline as seen from the Brooklyn Bridge’ by Mick van Hesteren

We overlook Midtown New York from the Brooklyn Bridge. In the distance we see, among other things, the iconic Empire State Building. To the right, we see the tail end of the Manhattan Bridge.

On this bucket list trip to New York with my father, I decided to deliberately limit myself a bit photographically. I 'only' took my backup camera (a Canon D600) with the smallest and cheapest lens I had (a Canon 50mm F/1.8). This first of all because we flew with only carry-on luggage, but definitely because my creativity is always triggered more when my options are limited. Hurricane Ian made for gray skies, but that made the photography on this trip wonderfully moody and autumnal.

It was a dream come true as I finally walked the streets of New York with my camera in my hands. If you see my other work you can see that urban photography and photos of architecture are my favorite niche. It was great to finally be able to do this in the Big Apple.
